When it comes to putting practice, I’ve always found that a little additional structure can make a significant difference. Using training aids or tools that provide feedback on setup keys and other important details gives my practice more purpose — and ultimately helps me become a more reliable putter under pressure.
That’s why I was interested in trying the Trigon Toolkit from Short Game Gains. I’ve been using their steel putting mirror for the past year or so, and it has become a regular part of my practice routine. The new Trigon Toolkit builds on that same idea by combining several simple putting tools to address different aspects of putting.

First, the Steel Trigon Mirror is a double-sided reflective plate for checking eye line, practicing start line, face alignment, aim, and enforcing center contact. Next up, the Trigon Toolkit includes a double sided, reflective steel shoulder alignment mirror. The flip side acts as a ruler to measure setup and calibrate your stroke length. On top of that, this bundle boasts 2 Putting Chalk Pens, filled with non-toxic, water based chalk for creating aim lines, alignment tracks, and start line graphics. These wipe away easily with a damp cloth and don’t damage or kill the grass. Lastly, this kit includes a retractable aim string. The main tool is the Steel Trigon Mirror, which can be used to check eye line, putter face alignment and aim. The reflective surface makes it easy to confirm that my setup is where I want it and that I’m aimed where I think I am before pulling the trigger.
The kit also includes a small rectangular mirror designed to help check shoulder alignment, giving me another useful reference point when assessing my setup. While one side is reflective, allowing me to check my body alignment, the other doubles as a ruler for measuring stroke length. This is particularly useful for monitoring the relationship between stroke length and tempo. I can mark a specific stroke length on the ruler and use it as a reference to ensure I’m maintaining the same tempo from putt to putt, rather than introducing more of a “hit” or changing my tempo to generate speed.
You’ll also receive two chalk pens, which are handy for creating visual references on the green. Whether you’re marking the length of your stroke, drawing start lines, or creating a visual reference for sliding putts, they provide a simple, straightforward way to pair drills with visual feedback. And, since the chalk is water-based, the markings can be wiped away with a damp cloth when I’m finished, without damaging the green.
The final piece is the retractable start-line string, which I’m particularly interested in trying. When used correctly, this putting string provides a clear reference for the start line of your putts. Position it at the hole directly, or a secondary point on the green to get immediate feedback on how consistently you’re starting putts on their intended line.
I think this could be particularly useful when working on green reading and breaking putts. Having a fixed reference for my intended start line should make it easier to distinguish between a poor read and a poor start, rather than simply judging the putt by where it finishes. For me, that’s where the string could really help — not just for alignment, but for understanding where my misses are actually coming from.
The biggest benefit of the Trigon Toolkit is that it gives your putting practice more purpose. Instead of aimlessly hitting putts, players can use the tools in the kit to focus on specific parts of their setup, alignment and stroke. Having that kind of feedback makes it easier to identify what needs work and, ultimately, make meaningful improvements in both the short and long term.
