Charlie Woods’ U.S. Junior Amateur run ends — after bizarre camera noise 

Charlie Woods, after hearing a camera noise that preceded an untimely mishit, turned around, and he said all that really needed to be said. 

“Really, dude?”

Three swings later, his run at the U.S. Junior Amateur was over.  

The 17-year-old son of 15-time major winner Tiger Woods, Charlie Woods had shot rounds of five-over 76 and even-par 70 at Saucon Valley Country Club in Bethlehem, Pa., which advanced him into a whopping 14-man playoff on Wednesday morning that would award two spots into ensuing match play. The 14 first played the 584-yard, par-5 1st at Saucon Valley’s Grace Course. 

Woods’ tee shot, according to those in attendance, finished in the fairway, and he then came up about 25 yards short and left of the green after trying to go for it in two. As Woods prepared to hit his third shot, X user @trevor_keaton recorded what happened. From deep rough, Woods looked at the green, put his head down and swung — and at the top of his backswing, the sound of a camera shutter could be heard. Seemingly flustered, Woods’ downswing became abbreviated into the thick grass, and his ball came up short of the green. 

He then dropped his club, turned around and said his two words. A nearby bystander could be overhead saying:

“Right in his swing.”

The noise was. From there, Woods, who will play college golf at Florida State University as part of next year’s recruiting class, made bogey, and he failed to advance to the next hole. Winning the two spots for match play were Eli Wessel of Indianapolis and Hudson Kutchma of Westfield, Ind.
