Who was MVP of Europe’s Ryder Cup afterparty? 1 rookie answers

It’s been quite the run for Ludvig Aberg. The two-time Ben Hogan Award winner turned pro in June and won his first professional tournament, the Omega European Masters, in September. That helped him secure a captain’s pick onto the European Ryder Cup team, and a couple of weeks ago he earned two points in Europe’s victory in Rome.

Just a week later he was in the States, and he nearly won the Sanderson Farms Championship last weekend — but lost to Luke List in a five-man playoff.

The rookie recently joined GOLF’s Subpar Podcast — days before his strong performance at the Sanderson Farms — to break down his whirlwind last few months in pro golf. Much of the conversation focused on Europe’s Ryder Cup win, the experience and, of course, the afterparty.

Aberg said the team hotel was about a 40-minute drive away from the course, so it was a good time for the European squad to talk and joke. The bus ride back to the hotel after their win on Sunday night, however, was much more lively.

“It was very cool,” Aberg said. “The last couple of years I’ve been drinking with my college friends [during the Ryder Cup], but now all of a sudden I was drinking with these guys, so that was very different.”

Back at the hotel, the festivities were underway. Aberg was asked which player was the afterparty MVP. He didn’t hesitate.

“Shane Lowry,” he said.

“He was a massive favorite,” joked Subpar co-host Colt Knost.

“Tyrrell (Hatton) was pretty good, too,” said Aberg, who ranked himself somewhere in the middle of the pack.

But the Lowry pick might not be much of a surprise for anyone who remembers the Irishman’s 2019 Open Championship victory at Royal Portrush, when Lowry famously celebrated in a pub (above) afterwards.

So, yeah. We can see why Lowry took home this top honor. You can listen to the full Subpar episode below.
