Now that the 2023 PGA Championship is over, the PGA Tour heads back to Texas for the 2023 Charles Schwab Challenge at Colonial. For our long-shot pick this week, we’re going with an under-the-radar pro who finished top 5 at Oak Hill. Here’s our pick, the Charles Schwab Challenge betting favorites and everything else you need to know for the week.

Charles Schwab Challenge odds: Long-shot bet

Our pick for this week’s post-PGA event in Texas is 30-year-old Kurt Kitayama, whose odds to win to start the week are +6600.

Kitayama is quietly having a great season in 2023. He captured his first PGA Tour victory at the Arnold Palmer Invitational in March to go along with three other top-10 finishes.

But we only need to look to last week to see what Kitayama is truly capable of. At the PGA Championship, he fired an impressive five-under 65 in the final round at Oak Hill to finish T4 with Bryson DeChambeau and Cam Davis.

Given that resume, his odds this week are too hard to ignore. Should you put $10 on Kurt to win and he makes it happen, you’ll earn $660. For insurance bets or ones with less risk, consider putting some money on Kitayama to finish in the top 10 and top 20.

How last week’s long shot fared

For last week’s PGA Championship, we picked Tyrrell Hatton as our long shot at +4000 odds to win. Hatton’s opening-round 77 left us worried he’d miss the cut. But then Hatton put on a serious rally at Oak Hill.

He shot 68 on Day 2 to make the cut on the number at five over, then fired a 69 in the treacherous, rainy third round to get within the top 30.
A final-round 67 saw Hatton jump all the way up to a T15 finish, alongside cult hero Michael Block, to become our sixth long shot to finish in the top 20 this year. If you added an insurance bet on Hatton to finish top 20 like we did, you hit the money.
