The 2021 Sanderson Farms Championship is already at the halfway point. Here are three things you missed from Friday’s Round 2 action in Jackson, Miss.
It’s a three-way tie at the top
On Thursday, PGA Tour rookie Sahith Theegala made headlines by taking the sole lead in the tournament with an opening round of 64. He backed up his performance with a second round of five-under 67 on Friday, and now shares the top of the leaderboard at 13 under par overall with two newcomers: Nick Watney (65-66) and Will Zalatoris (70-61) whose sizzling second round of 11-under 61 (a course record!) was bogey free.
Who else is in the hunt?
Other players within striking distance include Cameron Young and Hayden Buckley (-12); Roger Sloan (-11); and a huge logjam of players at 10 under: Aaron Wise, Stephan Jaeger, Henrik Norlander, Sam Burns, Denny McCarthy and Kurt Kitayama.
Harold Varner III is in the mix at nine under, and Jimmy Walker, Kevin Streelman and Corey Connors are also only five shots back at eight under.
Did any big names miss the cut?
The tournament’s headliner and defending champion, Sergio Garcia, was right on the cutline at four under overall, but ultimately fell on the wrong side of it, as only players who shot five under or better advanced to the weekend.
Other casualties of the cut include Gary Woodland, Patrick Rodgers, Keegan Bradley, Rory Sabbatini, Brandt Snedeker, Zach Johnson and Camilo Villegas.
