The WM Phoenix Open is back to its usual raucous party this week at TPC Scottsdale.
After a 2021 event with limited fan attendance due to COVID, tournament organizers have braced for overflow crowds all week.
For anyone walking the course, the size and mood of the proceedings left little doubt that the event has a chance to serve, at best, as a marker of a Valley-wide return to normalcy — or, perhaps more modestly, as at least a momentary reprieve following nearly two years of pandemic restrictions.
Temperatures are expected in the 80s all week, with clear blue skies providing the backdrop.
Tournament week started Monday and the first round was on Thursday. The Phoenix Open will once again conclude on Super Bowl Sunday.
