PGA Tour’s 2024 schedule is coming soon — ’90-plus percent’ done

DUBLIN, Ohio – As the calendar flips to June, the PGA Tour is closing in on announcing its schedule for the 2024 season.

During a question-and-answer session with media, Andy Pazder, the Tour’s chief tournaments and competitions officer, and Tyler Dennis, the Tour’s executive vice president, said at various times that the schedule will be announced in the next two weeks, the next month and later this summer, if not sooner. Safe to say, it’s coming soon.

Dennis said there have been educational sessions with every title sponsor and the schedule is “90-plus percent” done. The new schedule is expected to fix the cadence so that designated events are bunched together allowing the top players to go head-to-head two weeks in a row, if not three weeks in a row and designed to avoid isolated regular events, such as the then-Honda Classic in March, which was surrounded by designated events.

“Our objective is, we used 2023 as a transition and we’d announced our schedule in June 2022. Subsequently, we identified we wanted to create designated events so we boxed ourselves in,” Pazder said. “It created situations in the current season where you have isolated events, tournaments in between designated events which is far from ideal. The process we have gone through leading up to announcing [the 2024] schedule is we now have the ability to put together a flow to the schedule that will not have isolated events.”

Pazder said purses for the designated events are likely to stay at $20 million next year. With the addition of a new event next year in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, Dennis said there will be five opposite-field events. Pazder also said the Tour’s “fully-sponsored” for next year although a title sponsor for next year’s tournament in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, has not been named.

“We have a number of prospects and we will have a title sponsor announced eventually,” Pazder said.
