Welcome to GOLF.com’s new “Seen & Heard” video series, where we’ll endeavor to give you an inside look at golf’s biggest events through the eyes and ears of our onsite crew. On deck this week: The 2023 U.S. Open at Los Angeles Country Club. Let’s go!
Mondays at major championships are typically more subtle affairs as players arrive and the anticipation for the week ahead only begins to ramp up. However, given the landscape of the golf world was turned upside down in the past week, Monday at the U.S. Open was no typical major Monday.
Fresh off a vacation during one of the most tumultuous weeks in pro golf history, our Dylan Dethier arrives for the first time at Los Angeles Country Club and starts to take stock of what we might learn this week about the future of the game given last week’s announcement.
Meanwhile, Claire Rogers took in Rory McIlroy on the range, who after being the PGA Tour’s spokesperson for much of its war against LIV, seems to be taking a step back from the media spotlight this week.
On the equipment front, Ryan Barath spotted World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler testing a new flatstick at the LACC practice green. Scheffler has been otherworldly with his ball striking of late, but hasn’t won since March and the putter has been to blame.
The team also caught up with Barstool Trent for his never-before-revealed bold prediction of who will win this week.
