It still feels odd to write that Cameron Young has yet to win on Tour, but that could change Sunday thanks to his third-round 3-under 68 that has him three shots behind the lead with 18 holes to play.
He was 2 over through his first six holes Saturday after a bogey at the par-4 sixth, but that’s when he got his round back on track. Young made a hole-out eagle on the par-4 seventh and added birdies on Nos. 9, 11 and 12 to get to 3 under for the day and 7 under total.
“The ball going in on 7 helps a lot,” Young said after signing his card. “It was a bit of a rocky start, just didn’t miss well, and, yeah, I mean, once that one goes in you’re kind of like, reset. Hit it really nicely for a while there.”
He added a birdie and a bogey on Nos. 14 and 15, and made par on all three holes of the Snake Pit to finish out his day.
When asked about staying patient as he chases his first win, Young admitted his thoughts have gotten to him before: “I’ve definitely let it get to me at times. I feel like right now I’m in a really nice place mentally. I’ve had really good control over my thoughts and emotions this week. They have definitely got the better of me at times, but I feel like I’m in a really nice place and I’m just trying to hit each shot the best I can.”
