Jordan Spieth announced Monday on social media that he is withdrawing from the AT&T Byron Nelson with a wrist injury.

Jordan Spieth is officially out of the field at this week’s AT&T Byron Nelson.
The three-time major winner announced Monday afternoon that he experienced “severe pain in [his] left wrist over the weekend” which doctors confirmed requires “rest and limited movement.”
“The AT&T Byron Nelson means the absolute world to me,” he said in the statement. “I’m disappointed to miss it this week. Playing in front of family & friends in Dallas is one of the highlights of my year, and the tournament staff and volunteers are second to none. I look forward to being back next year and many years after.”
Spieth made his PGA Tour debut at the Byron Nelson as a 16-year-old in 2010 as the tournament’s first amateur sponsor exemption since 1995. He went on to make the cut, becoming the Tour’s sixth youngest to ever make the weekend, eventually finishing in a tie for 16th. He’s played in the tournament in his hometown of Dallas 11 times, and every year since 2013. Last year, he finished solo second, one shot behind winner K.H. Lee.
In recent years, the Byron Nelson has taken place the week before the PGA Championship, serving as a tune-up event before players tackle the second major of the season. Spieth, who only needs the PGA title to complete the career grand slam, did not mention if the injury would keep him from next week’s championship at Oak Hill, although he did list his recovery as “week to week.”
“I’m focused on healing as quickly as possible,” he said. “Sincere thanks to the medical professionals who have supported me over the weekend.”
Spieth has made 13 starts this season, making 10 cuts and registering five top 10s. He’s yet to record a win, although he does have a runner-up finish at the RBC Heritage. George McNeill has been announced as Spieth’s replacement in the field.
