Defending champion Patrick Cantlay will start this year’s Tour Championship in second place.

The 2022 Tour Championship — the grand finale of the 2022 FedEx Cup Playoffs — gets started Thursday afternoon with the opening round at East Lake Golf Club. Here’s what you need to know to watch Round 1 on TV or online.

Previewing Round 1

In last year’s playoffs, Patrick Cantlay won the BMW Championship, then used that as a springboard for a narrow victory at the Tour Championship and the FedEx Cup title (and many millions of dollars). Can he do it again this year, with even more money on the line ($18 million for the winner, to be exact)?

Cantlay is already halfway to that goal, having successfully defended his title at the BMW by holding off a crowd of chasers, among them World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler. But Cantlay will not begin Thursday’s opening round in first place. That spot belongs to Scheffler, whose T3 finish at the BMW was good enough to re-take the No. 1 FedEx ranking.

Scheffler, who starts the tourney at 10 under, and Cantlay (eight under) tee off for the opening round on Thursday at 2:45 p.m. ET. You can stream the first round via PGA Tour Live on ESPN+, or watch the telecast on Golf Channel.
