The 2021 BMW Championship features the 70 players who have survived the regular season and last week’s Northern Trust to make it this far, and it all gets started on Thursday in Maryland. Here’s everything you need to know to watch the tournament.

BMW Championship preview

Jon Rahm is exactly where he wants to be heading into the second leg of the FedEx Cup Playoffs. The World No. 1 nearly won last week’s Northern Trust, ultimately finishing third. That was good enough to move him up in the FedEx Cup standings from fifth to second, behind only Northern Trust champion Tony Finau.

But that’s not all Rahm has going for him this week. The second event of the playoffs is the BMW Championship, and Rahm is the defending champion, having topped Dustin Johnson in the playoff with a 66-foot birdie last year. However, the course is not the same as it was last year, having moved to Caves Valley Golf Club in Maryland for the 2021 event.

So his good memories from 2020 might not help him against Finau, or FedEx No. 3 Cameron Smith, both of whom will play with Rahm over the first two rounds. Then again, Rahm has plenty of good recent memories to look back on, and indisputably the best record on Tour over the past few months. The star grouping tees off at 11:21 a.m. ET on Thursday.
