How the Masters payout compares to other major championships

History, an invite back, a spot at a dinner, and a green coat are all great. Yeah, yeah. 

But $2.7 million can buy a lot of pimento cheese sandwiches. 

At this year’s Masters, pros will also be playing for a record purse of $15 million, with the winner bringing home $2.7 million. The Masters had an $11.5 million purse last year, but it made a big jump in 2022. It’s now the largest purse among golf’s four majors, although still not as much as the Players Championship, which was $20 million a month ago.

Below is the payout for golf’s other three majors last season, although those too could increase this year.

Masters (2022): $15 million, with the winner receiving $2.7 million

PGA Championship (2021): $12 million, with the winner receiving $2.16 million 

U.S Open (2021): $12.5 million, with the winner receiving $2.25 million  

Open Championship (2021): $11.5 million, with the winner receiving $2.07 million
