AUGUSTA, Ga. — Another year at the Masters, another LIV Golf player in contention to win.
Last year it was Brooks Koepka in the mix at the top of the leaderboard at Augusta National Golf Club and this time it’s his former rival and current colleague Bryson DeChambeau. The 2020 U.S. Open champion is off to his best-ever start at the Masters and currently sits tied for first at 6 under following rounds of 65-73 to start his week.
On the other side of the cut line, five players saw their weeks end early and have slammed the trunk and driven down Magnolia Lane for the final time this year. From the top of the leaderboard to the bottom, here’s how all 13 LIV players have fared thus far at the 2024 Masters.
DeChambeau took the first-round lead with a 7-under 65 but struggled to stay under par with gusting winds on Friday, where he shot a 1-over 73. The former bulked-up bomber had missed the cut in his last two trips to Augusta National and has a best-finish of T-21 when he was the low amateur in 2016.
One of the most consistent LIV players in the field this week, Smith continues his streak of eight straight years making the weekend cut after solid rounds of 71-72 on Thursday and Friday.
The 2018 Masters champ was one of few players under par in Friday’s difficult conditions and is at even par after rounds of 74-70. Reed hasn’t missed the cut at Augusta National since his win and has three top 10s (with a T-4 last year).
Making his eighth start at Augusta National this week, Hatton has now made his fourth consecutive cut after opening rounds of 72-74. His last three finishes? T-18/52/T-34.
One of two runners-up last year, the five-time major winner has yet to win at the Masters and will need to have a big weekend if he’s to win his first green jacket after rounds of 73-73 to start the week. Over the last five years at Augusta National, Koepka has a pair of T-2s (2019, 2023) and a T-7 (2020).
A three-time winner at Augusta National (2004, 2006, 2010), Mickelson was a runner-up alongside Koepka last year, his first top 10 at the tournament since he bagged T-2 back in 2015. He shot rounds of 73-75 to make the cut once again.
Niemann was one of three players to receive special invitations from Augusta National for this year’s tournament. He’s made five starts since 2018 and has now made the cut in his last four Masters appearances. After a 2-under 70 on Thursday, Niemann struggled with a Friday 78 but remained on the positive side of the cut line.
The defending champion won’t become just the fourth player (Jack Nicklaus, Nick Faldo and Tiger Woods) to go back-to-back at Augusta National unless he has some serious weekend heroics and a few players fall into Rae’s Creek. He’s earned five top-10 finishes and has still never missed the cut at Augusta National, though he did flirt with the cut line this week.
Garcia’s lone major win came at Augusta National at the 2017 Masters, but he’s now missed the cut in five of his six starts since.
The two-time Masters champion (2012, 2014) made his 16th appearance at Augusta National this week but exited stage left before the weekend with rounds of 74-80. Watson hasn’t finished inside the top 10 since 2018 (T-5) and has missed the cut the last two years.
Another former champion turned trunk slammer, Schwartzel, the 2011 Masters champ, shot rounds of 74-81 in his 15th appearance at Augusta National. He finished T-50 at last year’s tournament.
The 2020 Masters champion will be leaving Augusta National early in his 14th start after rounds of 78-79.
Meronk missed the cut in his Masters debut last year and ejected early from this year’s tournament (and hit the canopy on the way out) with rounds of 78-80 to finish second to last.
