BROOKLINE, MA. — The Country Club in Brookline, Massachusetts, is playing host to the 122nd U.S. Open just outside of Boston this week, and as the tournament approaches, bettors across the country will be narrowing in on their picks to win the third men’s major of the season.
Last week’s winner Rory McIlroy is the betting favorite at +1000, followed closely by his good buddy Justin Thomas at +1200. World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler, who’s bounced back nicely since his missed cut at the PGA Championship, is next in line with Jon Rahm at +1300.
If you’re looking to make some bets this week, here’s how I’d bet $100.

Sometimes, you just have to ride the hot hand.
McIlroy enters the week with five straight top 20 finishes, four of which are eighth or better, including a runner-up at the Masters and a win last week in Canada.
A $10 bet on McIlroy to win would win $100.
Again, riding a hot hand.
JT has finished inside the top 5 in three of his last four starts, a stretch that includes his PGA Championship win. Now that he’s won his second major, the floodgates may open.
A $10 bet on Thomas to win would win $120.
Zalatoris has been fantastic in major championships so far in his career. Just far in 2022, Willy Z has grabbed a T-6 at the Masters and was the runner-up to Thomas at the PGA.
He’s coming off a T-5 at the Memorial in his last start.
A $15 bet on Zalatoris to finish inside the top 20 would win $19.50.
Young finished T-60 at the Memorial, but that was all due to a Sunday 84. He was comfortably inside the top 20 when the round started, and one tough day for Young won’t keep me away.
In his previous three starts prior to Jack’s place, he finished inside the top 3.
A $15 bet on Young to finish inside the top 20 would win $27.
Max Homa, Top 20 finish (+162): $10 to win $16.20
Rory McIlroy, Top 10 finish (+135): $10 to win $13.50
Sam Burns, Top 20 finish (+125): $10 to win $12.50
Shane Lowry, Top 20 finish (+125): $10 to win $12.50
Matt Fitzpatrick, Top Englishman (+170): $10 to win $17
