This week’s Fortinet Championship is the first tournament of the new PGA Tour season, and according to the Fortinet Championship betting odds via BetMGM, two star players with several wins apiece are tied as betting favorites. Here’s what you need to know.

2022 Fortinet Championship odds: This week’s favorites

This past season was a breakthrough for 31-year-old Max Homa. Though he was already a Tour winner before the season began, he doubled his career victories from two to four. And it all started at last year’s Fortinet Championship.

As the defending champion this week, Homa has earned a piece of the betting-favorite title at +1400 odds to win. He shares the top spot with 2021 Masters champion Hideki Matsuyama. Matsuyama had two wins of his own early last season, at the Zozo Championship and the Sony Open, before finishing T11 at the season-ending Tour Championship.

Another player you should consider when making your bets for the first event of the season is Sahith Theegala (+2800), as well as two major winners a bit further down the list, Webb Simpson and Jason Day (both at +5000).

2022 Fortinet Championship odds: Long shot of the week

Our first long shot of the new season goes to fan favorite Rickie Fowler, who comes in with +12500 odds to win. The five-time PGA Tour winner has struggled to get back to his winning ways in recent years, plummeting down the Official World Golf Ranking, but it’s starting to feel like things are turning in the right direction for the 33-year-old.

Last season, Fowler finished 133rd in the FedEx Cup standings, but there were a few big bright spots in his year, including a T3 finish at the CJ Cup in October. Over the past two seasons, Fowler has made 28 cuts while only missing 18. It feels like this could be the year that he finally wins his first title since early 2019, and the relatively soft field at the Fortinet provides the perfect opportunity.

Should Fowler triumph and secure his sixth PGA Tour title this week, he’d turn a bold $1000 bet into $12,500.
