DORAL, Fla. — The one shot everybody wanted to discuss after Saturday’s semifinals at the 2023 LIV Golf Team Championship was one that landed in the woods.
“Hey, man, heard you shanked one today,” Harold Varner III said to Dustin Johnson about his line drive off the tee on the par-3 16th.
“It wasn’t a shank,” Johnson said. “It went straight right.”
Next up: Bubba Watson. “Nice shank on 15,” he said.
“It was solid,” DJ said. “Right square on the hosel.”
“It kind of went how I thought it would,” Johnson said. “Other than the shot on 15 wasn’t really what I was envisioning, but other than that, the rest of the day was pretty good.”
DJ on his shank: “It was solid. Right square on the hosel.”
I was talking with him before the presser tonight and he said he’s prone to shanks when he’s trying to hit a draw, so this one didn’t phase him.
“Birdied the next two,” he said with a shrug. https://t.co/wIWGHW4izC
