Collin Morikawa, Phil Mickelson, Nelly Korda named 2021 Players of the Year by Golf Writers Association of America


The Golf Writers Association of America have named Collin Morikawa Male Player of the Year, Nelly Korda Female Player of the Year and Phil Mickelson Senior Player of the Year for 2021.

All three golfers are first-time winners in their respective categories and they will be honored at the 48th annual GWAA Awards Dinner in Augusta, Georgia, on April 6, just ahead of the Masters Tournament.

Morikawa garnered 48 percent of the vote. Jon Rahm was second with 37 percent. Morikawa won twice in 2021, including the Open Championship, his second career major. He had two other top-10s in the majors—fourth at the U.S. Open, eighth at the PGA Championship—and he won the World Golf Championships-Workday Championship at The Concession. He was fourth at the Olympics and went 3-0-1 at the Ryder Cup.

Korda, the top-ranked player in the women’s game, won four times, including her first major at the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship. She also won the gold medal at the Olympics and was a member of the Solheim Cup team. Korda won 72 percent of the vote.

Mickelson won his sixth major in 2021 and became the first golfer over the age 50 to win a major when he won the PGA Championship. He made six starts on the PGA Tour Champions and won four times, including his first two outings on the circuit. He got 59 percent of the vote.
