ST. ANDREWS, Scotland — The winner of golf’s oldest major at golf’s oldest course will take home a record-breaking paycheck never seen before in Open Championship history.
The winner of the 2022 Open Championship on Sunday will take home $2.5 million out of a $14 million purse — both tournament records. The $14 million purse is a 60 percent increase from 2016 and a 22 percent increase from last year, when the purse was $11.5 million. Collin Morikawa, the winner in 2021, received $2.07 million.
The 2022 Masters and 2022 PGA Championship both offered $15 million purses and paid out $2.7 million to the winners. The U.S. Open had the largest purse among the four majors, paying out $17.5 million and $3.15 million to the winner.
The runner-up at this year’s Open will also clear over a million, with a paycheck of $1.455 million.
Below is the payout breakdown and winner’s share. As for those who didn’t make the cut, the top 10 pros and ties received $10,500, the next 20 $8,500, and the remainder of pros $7,000.
