What’s the most important piece of equipment in your golf bag? Your expensive new driver guaranteed to add distance? No. The putter you’ve carried since winning it all at a member-guest 15 years ago? Nope. The correct answer is your golf ball. Unlike every other single item in your bag, you can’t play the game without it.
Every golf ball is different and serves a purpose. A low compression ball helps those with slower swing speeds generate distance by reducing spin. The ability to compress the ball, thanks to the softer core, makes the ball carry farther, which is something most lower swing speed players need.
High compression balls are for players with swing speeds north of 90 mph (based on driver club speed) and are made with more spin for more control.
The majority of the golf balls on this list fall under the softer category. If you want to play the same ball as the pros, check out our list from earlier this year.

Why we like them: The timeless Warbird design has been around for what seems like forever. Continuing to improve upon the design, Callaway has produced a ball that has low spin off the tee while supplying higher launch and more carry all the way through the bag.
The Supersoft is exactly what it says it is. A bit more premium than the Warbird, the Supersoft comes in a variety of colors to add a bit of personalization to your game.
Callaway Warbird: $17.99 at GlobalGolf / PGA Tour Superstore / Walmart
Callaway Supersoft: $24.99 at GlobalGolf / PGA Tour Superstore / Walmart

Why we like it: MaxFli’s SoftFli golf ball provides durability, a soft feel, less spin, and more distance. And for its price tag, what is there not to love?
Maxfli SoftFli: $20 at Dick’s Sporting Goods
Price: $23 per dozen
Why we like it: Srixon continues to be one of the more underrated brands in the game right now. Its Soft Feel golf balls provide spin where you need it (greenside) and less spin where you don’t (off the tee). Aside from white and yellow, the Soft Feel is also available in Brite Green, Red, and Orange.
Srixon soft feel: $22.99 at GlobalGolf / PGA Tour Superstore / Walmart
Price: $25 per dozen
Why we like it: Despite having the most played ball on the PGA Tour, Titleist does not rest on its laurels. The TruFeel receives just as much attention as the ProV1 and ProV1x by the golf giant. For those looking to cut cost, not quality, the TruFeel is one of the best options out there.
Titleist TruFeel: $24.99 at GlobalGolf / PGA Tour Superstore / Walmart
Price: $23 per dozen
Why we like it: Wilson Staff uses its patented VelocitiCOR technology to allow the DUO Soft+ to absorb every ounce of power in your swing. Longer and straighter is the name of the game for the DUO Soft+ and it delivers.
