The book of Steph Curry wouldn’t be complete without a passage on his relationship with golf.
But what fun is a book when you can have a TV show?
On Friday, NBC and Golf Channel announced the creation of “Niiice Shot” — a new show centered around Curry’s efforts to recreate some of the most famous shots in golf history with the help of some of the biggest names in the sport.
The four-part project, created in conjunction with Curry’s production company Unanimous Media, will feature Curry attempting to recreate four of the more famous shots in recent pro golf history: Jordan Spieth’s hole-out at the 2018 Travelers Championship, Tiger Woods’ miracle flop shot at the Memorial Tournament in ’12, Rory McIlroy’s hole-out from the fairway at the ’16 Tour Championship and — perhaps most notably — Woods’ 2-iron stinger from the ’06 Open Championship.
An all-star cast of characters was recruited to help Curry in pursuit of that goal, including McIlroy, Michelle Wie West, Curry’s swing coach Alex Riggs and his former teammate (and fellow avid golfer) Andre Iguodala.
The show will air every Tuesday at 9 p.m. ET on Golf Channel beginning on Sept. 12 and concluding on Oct. 10, just after the completion of the Ryder Cup. Episodes will run a half-hour in length, and the show will earn one half-hour timeslot on the Sunday before the Ryder Cup (Sept. 24) on NBC.
“Niiice Shot” represents the latest foray for Curry into the game of golf — a sport that has captured both his attention and his time even in the prime of a career that has seen him become one of the most celebrated players in the NBA. Curry is known as one of the better celebrity players in golf — a stick who is one of the few celebrities with a club deal (with Callaway). Earlier this year, Curry won the American Century Invitational — a celebrity pro-am — shortly after the conclusion of the Warriors’ 2022-23 season.
Curry and his production company are in the third year of a multi-year content creation agreement with NBC that is likely to credit for the creation of “Niiice Shot.” Unanimous Media is perhaps best known for its work on “Stephen Curry: Underrated” — a documentary about the basketball star’s rise to prominence — which came in conjunction with the heralded Hollywood production house A24.
“Niiice Shot” is just the latest in a busy media workload for Curry. In addition to NBC, the four-time NBA Champ has created shows and documentaries for media giants ABC, NBC, Netflix, and HBO.
