Ben Hogan and Byron Nelson have their bridges. So, too, does Gene Sarazen and Jack Nicklaus has a plaque between 16 green and 17 tee.
The two bridges that traverse Rae’s Creek at Amen Corner each commemorate an important player and moment in Masters history.
Hogan’s bridge, which leads to the left side of the 12th green, pays tribute to his record low score of 274 in 1953, while Nelson bridge, which crosses the creek in front of the 13th tee, honors Nelson’s 1937 win. The first bridge at Augusta named for a player, the Sarazen Bridge, was dedicated on April 6, 1955. It crosses a small body of water fronting the No. 15 green.

In our next Masters Survey question, we asked pros how should Augusta National Golf Club honor Tiger’s five victories at the Masters?
“Oh, man. Putting an emblem of his fist pump in a sprinkler head left of 18 green. That’s the best I’ve got.”
“It would be cool to do something around 16 green just because of how iconic his chip in there was.”
“I would say a bridge. He’s worthy of one. That seems to be what the best that have ever played there have.”
“The most iconic shot is the chip shot left of 16. A plaque there wouldn’t be that exciting. Maybe on the tee.”
“They need to make up a couple of bridges for Tiger and Jack.”
“The chip at 16 is the first thing that comes to mind but how do you do it there? I don’t think the bridge from 13 to 14, the grass bridge over Rae’s Creek. I don’t know. There are a number of opportunities there.”
“Maybe they should name the new tunnel the Tiger Tunnel. But that’s not on the course. When 13 gets so long that they need a bridge they can name it for Tiger.”
“It’s got to be on the 16th green, right?”
“On 18 tee, a plaque or a statue.”
“Put a plaque on 12 tee because he wasn’t one of the dumb guys to hit it in the water (in 2019). He stuck to the game plan and hit it over the bunker.”
“Statue on the first tee. I don’t know. That’s the great thing about the place, they get to do whatever they want.”
“That guy deserves a monument at every single golf course we go to. The chip on 16, that deserves something. How do you time the ball to fall like that? I don’t think it’s possible.”
“That’s for Augusta National to decide.”
“Tiger hit the best shot on 16 given the situation maybe in the history of golf all time so I think something on the tee at 16.”
“Back there left of 16 comes to mind. I’m trying to think if there is another bridge or some kind of walkway. It’s almost like you need a dang plate on the first tee for him and Jack.”
“Something memorable from 1997 or 2019. Either one –’19 was the most special and ’97 changed the game the most.”
