Mass Golf
Even on our worst days on the course, there’s always that one shot that keeps us coming back. Amateur golfer Na Liu recently experienced that phenomenon — but she took it to the utmost extreme.
To say Liu’s showing at the Massachusetts Women’s Amateur was rough would be an understatement. Over 36 holes of stroke play at Orchards Golf Club, Liu was 96 over par. Her two-round total of 240 (186 net) was worst in the field by a whopping 43 shots, and it left her 88 strokes behind the medalist.
But despite a card littered with snowmen (and worse), Liu still managed to make one swing that will surely keep her coming back for more. That’s because on the par-3 17th hole during her first round, she carded a hole-in-one.
That’s right, sandwiched between an 8 and a 7, and just five holes after carding an 11(!) Liu managed to accomplish one of the greatest feats in the sport.
There are countless poor souls out there who go their entire golf careers without experiencing that sort of high, but even in the midst of one of the most brutal stretches you’ll ever see, Liu managed to summit the mountaintop.
Golf’s a great game, ain’t it?
