Improved tempo can begin with a single training aid.

Tempo, tempo, tempo.

It’s the one tip I’ve been given by every coach I’ve worked with. But when I’m told to slow my tempo down, it’s tough to gauge exactly how much. Xander Schauffele and Sergio Garcia’s swings are so smooth, but how can you replicate their tempo? Hideki Matsuyama and Cameron Young actually pause theirs completely.

We are often given examples of tempo but rarely receive the metrics we need to make the correct adjustment. While TrackMan offers amazing data, you’ll have to look elsewhere for the metric that yields silky smooth, Boom Boom-esque swings.

The Blast Motion Speed Analyzer is a game changer, and when you pair this device with Super Speed weighted training clubs, the results are undeniable.

The Blast sensor pairs with a mobile app to provide you instant feedback on your backswing time, downswing time, overall tempo, and face angle. On the app, you can use the smart record feature to capture each swing, and your statistics will be saved on its cloud-based software.

I made adjustments to each part of my game thanks to this sensor. It told me if I decelerated through my putts or chips, and which way my club face was pointed at impact. But once I had my data, I didn’t know what to do with it.

Golf Channel Host Martin Hall and eight-time PGA Tour winner Brad Faxon had me covered. Their instructional videos on the Training Center website are directly related to the metrics that Blast provides, allowing me to make subtle adjustments and real improvement.

My short-game improved by correcting tempo but the results with my driver were fascinating.

SuperSpeed Swing Speed Challenge (Week 2): Making Gains

By:

Luke Kerr-Dineen

I attached my Blast sensor to the Super Speed training system, making swings with the three differently weighted clubs. The app instantly provided data on my swing speed, tempo, and angle of attack. Videos and recommendations appeared below my numbers. In a matter of seconds, I had my own data driven lesson ready for me.

After a few practice sessions, the back-to-through ratio on my putting stroke was much closer to Brad Faxon’s — not bad, considering he led the PGA Tour in putts per round four different seasons. It also increased my swing speed by three miles per hour, but I didn’t put any more effort into it — my tempo had just improved.

You can purchase the SuperSpeed trainer below, or save $20 if you package it with the Blast Motion Speed Analyzer.
