Metalwood Studio is an up-and-coming, L.A.-based golf brand founded by Cole Young that celebrates the golf of yesteryear. They sell a mix of vintage 1990s-early 2000s clubs and gear as well as in-house branded merchandise that channels that same aesthetic.
Garrett Leight, on the other hand, is an established eyewear brand — also out of L.A. — that’s done many golf-adjacent collaborations over the past few years. It’s no secret that Leight himself is a big golfer, and that’s shined through as his brand has worked with golf retailers like FootJoy, Jones and Malbon Golf.
And now Leight and Metalwood are working together. The collaboration — which consists of shades (of course); a bold patterned, camp collar shirt and matching shorts; a bucket hat; a towel; and an old-school barrel driver cover — has a lighthearted, vintage feel. In fact, the collection is actually described to be for “stylish people like you who share a love for the zany slash unintentionally awesome vibes of late ’90s golf gear, who are not afraid to sing the praises of ‘blades’ (that’s golf clubs to all of you non-putters out there) in the company of anyone under the age of 65.” Talk about lighthearted!

GLCO X Metalwood Chrome MP-14 Sun
$265
These wraparound shades are the highlight of the collaboration, channeling major ’90s nostalgia.
Sure, the orange wraparound sunglasses or the tie-dyed camp shirt aren’t for everybody, but that’s kind of the point. When we caught up with Young about the collaboration, and how it came to be, he said, “I think Garrett and I are just such gear heads and interested in good product that doesn’t currently exist in the golf market. … Like, those wraparound shades exist in the world but maybe not within the scope of golf.” Their entire motive was to create new, unique products that cultivate a sense of excitement and nostalgia about golf gear.
And despite the size and age of Metalwood Studio — the brand has only been around since 2020 — Leight and his team were fully on board with another golf-related collaboration. “Working with his team was a dream come true and definitely gave Metalwood a sense of legitimacy considering how new we are. Garrett and his team are good at supporting brands that share the same motives no matter the size or age,” Young said.
