Rory McIlroy returns to action this week at the 2022 Wells Fargo Championship, and he’s a heavy favorite in the Wells Fargo betting odds via BetMGM. Here’s what you need to know.
2022 Wells Fargo Championship odds: This week’s favorites
Some weeks on the PGA Tour feature a number of players with similar betting odds that can reasonably be considered favorites. This week, however, there really is only one. Four-time major champion Rory McIlroy comes in at +750 to win it all in North Carolina. In a distant second is Canadian Corey Conners (+2000).
McIlroy, of course, is fresh off a dramatic bunker hole-out on the 18th Sunday at the 2022 Masters that left him with a solo second-place finish. McIlroy has won the Wells Fargo Championship three times, but this year he won’t defend his title on the same course. The tournament moved from its normal home at Quail Hollow Club to TPC Potomac at Avenel Farm, since Quail Hollow is hosting the Presidents Cup this fall.
2022 Wells Fargo Championship odds: Long shot of the week
Since Rory is favored to win back-to-back Wells Fargo titles, why not have the same pro play the role of long shot in back-to-back weeks? The honor once again goes to Martin Trainer. For those not in the know, Trainer has missed a lot of cuts and faces long odds to win each week because of it.
But the 31-year-old pro has a PGA Tour victory on his resume, so he knows how to make it happen in the clutch. More importantly, with pre-tournament odds at +40000 last week, Trainer not only made the cut but fired a final-round 64 at the Mexico Open to finish T11. But his odds to win this week have only improved to +30000. That makes him well worth the risk of a small bet that could pay out big time.
