This low-spinning driver powered Jon Rahm’s victory at the Mexico Open

As it turns out, the easiest way to keep from spinning out of control is to keep from spinning altogether.

On Sunday, Jon Rahm defended his 54-hole lead at the Mexico Open with a fury, recording a final-round 69 — his fourth consecutive round in the 60s of the week — en route to a one-stroke victory.

Even for a former World No. 1, fending off a charging PGA Tour field on Sunday takes serious composure — composure helped by a steely demeanor off the tee.

Rahm finished the week first in the field in driving distance, besting the likes of bombers Cameron Champ and Tony Finau by averaging 340.5 yards per drive (!). He balanced that dominance off the tee by finishing tied for 15th in driving accuracy, hitting 36 of 52 fairways for the week. This performance was all part of a larger effort that’s seen the Spaniard soar into the top spot on Tour in strokes gained: off-the-tee — an effort aided by his Callaway Rogue ST Triple Diamond LS Driver.

With the tournament on the line on Sunday, Rahm played the par-5s at two under, riding massive drives to two of his four birdies for the day.
