A few days after making an appearance at the Genesis Invitational, a tournament put on by his foundation, Tiger Woods was involved in a single-car crash resulting in serious injury to his lower body.
He suffered “open” fractures in his tibia and fibula which required immediate surgery, and had a rod inserted in his tibia and pins and screws placed in his ankle and foot.
“We have been made aware of Tiger Woods’ car accident today. We are awaiting further information when he comes out of surgery. On behalf of the PGA Tour and our players, Tiger is in our prayers and will have our full support as he recovers,” PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan said in a statement.
“I’m sick to my stomach,” said an emotional Justin Thomas. “You know, it hurts to see one of your, now one of my closest friends get in an accident. Man, I just hope he’s all right. Just worry for his kids, you know. I’m sure they’re struggling.”
“It’s sickening,” said Adam Scott. “He’s our hero out here. You think guys like Tiger and Kobe Bryant are untouchable, but they’re not. I just hope he’s all right.”
