The 2021 Tour Championship — the finale of the FedEx Cup Playoffs — begins on Thursday at East Lake, where the top pros will begin their quest for Sunday’s $15 million prize. Here’s what you need to know to watch the first-round action on TV or online.
Previewing Tour Championship Round 1
With apologies to the other 28 competitors vying for the FedEx Cup title this week, most attention is directed toward two players: Patrick Cantlay and Bryson DeChambeau. Cantlay is No. 1 in the rankings, and will start the tournament at 10 under par, thanks to his win last week at the BMW Championship in an epic playoff over DeChambeau. Cantlay, who sounded off on a range of topics in his pre-tournament press conference, could be ready for this career breakthrough.
DeChambeau, who has been the center of attention much of the year on the PGA Tour, begins the tournament at No. 3 with a score of seven under. He’s coming off a near-miss at the BMW and rides a wave of controversy around hecklers who have haunted him with chants of “Brooksy,” something the PGA Tour hopes to crack down on this week.
Cantlay starts Thursday’s opening round in the final pairing with Tony Finau at 2:00 p.m. ET. DeChambeau tees off in the penultimate group at 1:50 p.m. ET alongside U.S. Open champion Jon Rahm.
