Two weeks ago, the United States Golf Association announced Stanford teammates and world Nos. 1 and 2 Rose Zhang and Rachel Heck, as well as Allisen Corpuz, as the first three members to represent Team USA in the upcoming 41st Curtis Cup. The three-day event that pits the top eight American amateur women against their counterparts from Great Britain and Ireland will be held Aug. 26-28 at Conwy Golf Club in North Wales.
Zhang, Heck and Corpuz were automatic selections as the top-three Americans in the World Amateur Golf Ranking. On Monday, the remaining five spots were announced.
She may not know where Wales is, but Kentucky junior Jensen Castle earned her spot on the team by winning the 121st U.S. Women’s Amateur on Sunday. The other four players making the trip across the pond later this month will be Duke senior Gina Kim, Wake Forest junior Rachel Kuehn, Arkansas senior Brooke Matthews and recent Wake Forest graduate Emilia Migliaccio.
Seven of the eight Americans are currently ranked inside the top 40 in the world.
“I couldn’t be more excited to finally have the team in place,” said captain Sarah Ingram, a two-time U.S. Women’s Mid-Amateur champion and member of the 1992, 1994, and 1996 USA Curtis Cup teams. “Over the last two years, I’ve gotten to know many of these young ladies, and have a tremendous amount of admiration and respect for them as golfers and people. We’re going to work hard over the next few weeks with the goal of bringing the trophy back to the United States.”
Due to current health and safety guidelines, alternates Megan Schofill and Megha Ganne will travel with the team to Wales.
The teams will play six foursomes (alternate-shot) matches, six four-ball matches and eight singles matches over three days of competition.
