If you’ve spent any time tracking gear trends with me or following Stephen Curry’s journey on the golf course, you already know he doesn’t just dabble in the game—he treats it with the exact same obsessive craft, discipline, and competitive fire he brings to the hardwood.
There’s nothing casual about how Curry feels about his golf game or the companies he partners with. Funny thing is, Miura doesn’t play that game either.
His latest unboxing video covering the brand-new Miura x Curry Brand Iron Set is the perfect example of the passion the Golden State Warriors star has for the game, the Miura brand and the kids on the Underrated Tour. In this instance, all three have real equity in the deal.

That’s the beauty of this collab: The ultimate master of his craft meets the ultimate toolmaker, translating directly into support for the next generation of players who can actually use it.
Look, let’s be completely honest with each other: when two absolute titans like Miura — the gold standard of Japanese forging and the philosophy of Kaizen (continuous improvement) — team up with the NBA’s ultimate shot-maker, you expect something special. But what they’ve cooked up here is next-level.
Only 300 sets will ever hit the wild, making this one of the most exclusive drops we’ve seen in years. And if you’re trying to get your hands on a set, you better move fast: they go live on Monday, and I guarantee they will sell out within an hour.
Let’s break down why this collaboration is an absolute masterpiece, why the internet critics have completely missed the mark, and why I’m so fired up about what this drop represents.
Clearing the air: Why the internet critics have gotten this collab all wrong
As soon as this drop was announced, social media predictably did what social media does best: the purists started clutching their pearls.
You saw the usual chorus of comments floating around Instagram and X: “Miura is selling out,” “A basketball brand touching traditional Japanese forgings?” and, inevitably, sticker-shock complaints about the price tag. In all honesty, not every release was meant to make everyone happy. There’s always a cynical take even in the best of circumstances; humans gonna human, always.
Let’s hit the brakes on that narrative right now, because it completely misses how this all works.
First off, the idea that this isn’t “on-brand” for Miura ignores the company’s history of intentional, high-end partnerships and custom engineering. Miura doesn’t just slap a logo on a stock head; they built a completely bespoke combo set featuring a QPQ black finish, custom loft-bending, and tailored stamping. Second, for the folks complaining about a “crazy price tag” on an ultra-limited run: economics 101 applies here. There are only 300 sets being produced for the entire planet. This is a hyper-exclusive collector’s piece.
And let’s be entirely honest about what is about to happen in the aftermarket: absolute chaos. Sports collectors and high-end gear hounds will ruthlessly hunt these down.
Thirty sets will feature Stephen’s personal signature on a gold Certificate of Authenticity; the secondary market pricing on those irons promises to skyrocket into the stratosphere. If you manage to secure a set at retail today, you’re holding a piece of modern golf memorabilia that will command five figures the second it hits the forums, eBay or your favorite memorabilia site.
The parallels of Curry and Miura: Where precision meets obsession
Looking past the noise of the internet, when you examine the DNA shared by Miura Golf and Stephen Curry, the partnership makes total sense.
For decades, Miura has pursued perfection through Kaizen — the Japanese philosophy of continuous improvement and changing for the better. Built by Katsuhiro Miura (and now carried on by his sons), the company doesn’t just manufacture golf clubs; they hand-craft pieces of art, grinding every single head by hand with an uncompromising standard of tolerance. It’s a painstaking, solitary pursuit of flawlessness. Sound like someone else?
Look at Curry’s career. Long before he was rewriting the NBA record books as the greatest shooter of all time, he was known for his legendary, hyper-disciplined pre-game routines. Hour after hour in empty arenas, launching hundreds of shots with identical mechanics, chasing a standard of perfection that most athletes never even conceptualize. Both Curry and Miura live in the microscopic margins where millimeters and milliseconds separate good from immortal.
The technical specs: Engineering the ultimate combo set
Curry walks through the unboxing with the genuine excitement of a kid on Christmas morning, pulling back the layers on a setup that mirrors what he actually plays:
- The Long Irons (4, 5, and 6): Built on Miura’s acclaimed TC-202 cavity backs, offering a touch more forgiveness, stability, and optimal launch where you need it most on long approaches.
- The Scoring Irons (7 through Pitching Wedge): Transition seamlessly into the buttery-soft, precision-oriented MB-101 muscle backs, providing ultimate workability, feedback, and control.
- The Bridge Engineering (The 30-Degree 6-Iron): To make the transition flawless, the 6-iron is custom-bent to 30 degrees of loft and stamped with Stephen’s iconic “30” on the sole instead of a traditional number six.
- The Finish & Details: Outfitted in a glare-resistant, stealthy QPQ black finish, custom ferrules with four gold rings (representing Stephen’s four championships), and his personal mantra, “I Can Do All Things”.
- Shafts: True Temper Dynamic Gold Tour Issue SC30 S400 shafts with custom collaboration labels.
Why This Collab Matters: Expanding the Game Through the Underrated Tour
While the easter eggs and the collector hype are incredible, the true heartbeat of this collaboration lies in its purpose. A portion of the proceeds from the Miura x Curry Iron set goes directly back to support Stephen Curry’s Underrated Golf Tour.
For anyone tracking the game’s evolution, the Underrated Tour has been a monumental force, expanding equity, access, and opportunity for student-athletes from underrepresented communities and female players. Golf has historically carried a massive barrier to entry — social, financial, and institutional — that has locked too many talented kids out of the junior tournament circuit. What Stephen and his team have built with Underrated isn’t just a tour; it’s a structural bridge, giving high-performing players from diverse backgrounds the exact same exposure, college visibility, and competitive reps that traditional pathways have gatekept for decades.
When you look at it through that lens, tying a luxury, ultra-rare artifact like a Miura iron set to a social mission changes the entire conversation. Knowing that every single set sold helps fund these junior initiatives makes an incredible gear drop feel infinitely more meaningful. It proves that elite equipment can coexist with a genuine, sleeves-rolled-up commitment to growing the game from the ground up.
A pure labor of passion: When icons just want to have fun
At the end of the day, we sometimes over-analyze every release, looking at what it is and price points through a hyper-cynical lens. But here is why I love this so much: sometimes, collabs happen simply because two distinct entities have been genuine fans of each other’s work for years. Miura admires Curry’s relentless work ethic and cultural impact, and Stephen has long respected the pure artistry of Miura’s forging process. Simple. Clean.
Sometimes, collaborations get done because heroes and favorite craftsmen just want to have fun together and create something they both believe in. That genuine, unadulterated passion says a lot about growing the game. When elite craftsmanship meets a shared love for golf and competition, everybody wins.
Better act fast, though. There’s a good chance if you’ve read this far, the irons are already sold out.
