South African star Christiaan Bezuidenhout thinks he has had a big enough sample size to know whether players feel more pressure in team events than at majors.
Bezuidenhout , who is 32, was the guest on this week’s Subpar podcast, where much of the conversation focused on next week’s Presidents Cup at Medinah outside of Chicago.
“Yeah, it’s a lot different,” Bezuidenhout said. “Playing for 11 other guys, playing for the shield, playing for the captain, the vice captains, for me it just adds a little bit more pressure [versus majors]. To go out there and do your best, put a point on the board and win your matches and play well and stuff, all of that just adds a little bit of pressure.
“I feel like the majors has some pressure, but it’s all on yourself,” he continued. “If you don’t happen to play well, it’s all on yourself. You just go to the range, or go to the next week and sort it out and move on. But at the Presidents Cup, yeah, you really want to put some points on the board for your team.”
Bezuidenhout has played in 21 major championships — his best finish a T12 at the 2025 U.S. Open — and is readying to play in his third straight Presidents Cup.
He holds a 3-1-1 record in his two appearances, both team losses. Come Sept. 24-27 at Medinah, his International squad will try to win for the first time since 1998.
