The 2026 PGA Tour’s winningest putters show mallets are the new king

If you were to describe the list of PGA Tour winning putters with two words, the first would easily be “mallet.”

Across 37 events with 38 winners, only five events by three different pros were won all season by a blade putter. Matt Fitzpatrick won three times with his Bettinardi blade while Tom Kim and Ryan Fox made it a blade sweep in the PGA Tour’s two links golf events, the Scottish Open and Open Championship.

Other than that, every other event this season was won by players using mallet putters.

The next word would be “Spider.”

Nine of those players, combining for 13 wins, were using TaylorMade Spider family putters and 11 of them were using the flagship Spider Tour X. The 11 wins for the Spider Tour X shape were more than any other putter brand this season.

The Spider started out strong, winning five of the first six events on Tour this season and kept it up with two majors and Scottie Scheffler’s FedEx Cup victory.

But the Spider was hardly the only putter platform to consider 2026 a success.

Scotty Cameron earned nine victories as a brand, with three coming from Young’s Phantom 9.5R, which gained traction over the summer after Young’s hot spring. Ping also saw lots of momentum from its Scottsdale TEC line of putters, fueled by Wyndham Clark’s rapid turnaround on the greens.

Putters are perhaps the most uniquely personal piece of equipment, but pros take note of what is working. Right now, mallets seem to be working en masse.

No. 1 TaylorMade Spider Tour X (11 victories, 7 players)

TaylorMade’s Spider Tour series of mallet putters was once again the winningest putter family on the PGA Tour in 2026 with 13 victories through the end of the FedEx Cup season. All but two of them came from the Spider Tour X head shape (Jacob Bridgeman won with Spider Tour and Aaron Rai with Spider Tour V).

Pretty much everyone knows about Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy’s moves to the Spider Tour X, but this year we saw Collin Morikawa finally find a putter to stick with in a custom flow neck Spider Tour X, while Michael Thorbjornsen also moved from the larger Spider Tour to the X just before his victory.

The Spider Tour X also recorded five non-staff victories, including Chris Gotterup, who like Scheffler, earned three victories for the putter. J.T. Poston also won with a Spider Tour X L-Neck from the new 2026 line and Brandt Sendeker ended a 23-year run with his previous gamer before winning with the Spider Tour X in Myrtle Beach.

T2. Scotty Cameron Phantom 9.5R (3 victories, 2 players)

While the Spider had much of the early momentum, it was Cameron Young’s Scotty Cameron Phantom 9.5R that gradually earned a ton of conversions as the year went on. Young switched to the model last season and later earned his first win at the 2025 Wyndham Championship. Two more victories later, and pros started to take note of Young’s success with the rounded, slant neck mallet.

Justin Thomas even asked a for an essential copy of Young’s putter and used it for most of the season. Each week, more and more players switched into a Phantom 9.5R and Jackson Koivun earned his first PGA Tour victory with the head in July.

The Tour momentum even led Cameron to bring the head shape to retail last month.

The Phantom 9R head shape is the next evolution of the Phantom 9 profile that debuted in2024. The 9R (“R” denoting rounded) features softer, more rounded contours and edges compared to its predecessor. The new 9.5R configuration features a “.5” jet neck, which promotes more toe flow than the 9R or 9.2R models, and a single, long sightline for precise alignment over the ball.

T2. Ping Scottsdale TEC Ally Blue Onset CB (3 victories, 1 player)

Perhaps no putter change meant more to any one player than Wyndham Clark moving into the Ping Scottsdale TEC Ally Blue Onset CB putter.

Not only did Clark turn his putting, and season, around (tying Scheffler, Gotterup and Matt Fitzpatrick for the most wins on the year), but it also led him to become a Ping ambassador in a putter-only deal with the company. The agreement was a first-of-its-kind deal for Ping.

T2. Bettinardi BB1 DASS Fitz Flow (3 victories, 1 player)

Sometimes it’s a temporary putter switch that gets the gamer to behave a little better.

Matt Fitzpatrick had started using a Bettinardi BB48 prototype with his signature C-Groove face late last year, but went back to his longtime BB1 DASS Fitz Flow and went on a tear in March and April, winning three times.

The Phantom 5 is what Scotty Cameron describes as its “Flagship” wing-back mallet design, so it’s no surprise the shape is still picking up victories.

Justin Rose got his win early with the Phantom 5 at Torrey Pines, while Russell Henley used his older Phantom X5 gamer to win in Fort Worth.

T5. Scotty Cameron GoLo 7 (2 wins, 2 players)

The center-shafted GoLo was another pros took notice of in 2026. An oft-forgotten about design at retail, but still widely popular on the PGA Tour, Rickie Fowler started using a center-shafted GoLo 7 putter this year and returned to his previous form on the greens, recording his best strokes gained season since 2019.

Close friend Gary Woodland added one to the bag and won for the first time since 2019. Bud Cauley got his first ever win with the putter in June. Several other players tried the putter as well throughout the year and Michael Brennan won in Greensboro with a smaller GoLo 6 with a single-bend shaft.
