When you say the word “Teryllium,” it has a special meaning to Scotty Cameron fans. We’re going to assume that includes Brooks Koepka.
Teryllium is a unique-to-Cameron alloy made from a combination of copper and 11 other metals that for the last 30 years has given its putters an unmistakable soft, yet responsive, feel. The material first came to prominence when Tiger Woods used a Newport Tel3 to win the Masters by 12 in 1997.
More recently, Teryllium has shown up in a number of Scotty Cameron special releases and Tour putters, including several made specifically for Koepka, who won all five of his major championships using Teryllium Newport 2s.
This week, at the Wyndham Championship, Koepka is back in a putter with the iconic copper insert. This time, it’s a new Phantom 3.2 mallet.
Koepka has been on a putter search this season. He lost nearly two-and-a-half strokes a round in his first start back on the PGA Tour at the Farmers Insurance Open and immediately switched from his Scotty Cameron T22 Newport 2 gamer to a TaylorMade Spider Tour X.
The Spider Tour X lasted until Myrtle Beach when he broke the putter in apparent frustration. The following week at the PGA Championship, Koepka tried a then-recently launched Spider Tour V with long plumber’s neck but still lost strokes on the greens for the sixth time in eight starts.

He used a third putter in as many weeks at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson, when he went back to Scotty Cameron, this time a Studio Style Fastback 1.5 mid mallet. Like his Teryllium putters, the Studio Style also has a soft-feeling insert, but it’s made from Studio Carbon Steel and sports the company’s chain-link mill pattern.
But since then, Koepka has been held back by injury and finished only one other event, the Open Championship, where he logged a T28. He lost more than a stroke on the greens at Royal Birkdale. Still, his SG: Putting on Tour ranking of 116th this season has improved from 141 since switching to Fastback 1.5. Meanwhile, he ranks 8th in SG: Approach.
Apparently, that’s led Koepka to go back to the familiar feel of the Teryllium insert this week in a new package, the Phantom 3.2.

This actually isn’t the first week Koepka has tested Teryllium again this season. At the PGA Championship, he tried out a custom Phantom 9.5R, the same shape used by Cameron Young and Justin Thomas, with a Teryllium insert, but decided the putter was too heavy.
With nearly all of Cameron’s current models sporting an insert, the Cameron Tour team has done some cool experiments with different insert materials including Teryllium, Studio Stainless Steel (SSS) and aluminum.
The Phantom 3.2 is the newest shape in the Phantom mallet family and is designed specifically to have a more forward CG and play similarly to a blade. The “.2” plumber’s neck is also the same hosel Koepka had on his previous Newport 2s.
In his opening-round 67 at Sedgefield, Koepka gained nearly 2.6 strokes on the greens, 9th in the field. But he has work to do as he needs at least a solo fourth finish this week to qualify for next week’s FedEx Cup Playoffs and he started the second round six off the lead.
Jason Day has a Callaway overhaul
Jason Day has made nearly a complete bag overhaul this week.
Out with his Avoda irons and wedges and in with Callaway’s new Apex MB ’26 and X Forged 5-iron.
It appears Jason Day is done with his testing of Avoda’s curved face irons.
The former World No. 1 had been playing prototype sets of the company’s irons and wedges with unique bulge-and-roll characteristics similar to the ones Bryson DeChambeau played since last fall, but he’s making a change this week as he ranks outside the top 150 in SG: Approach.
Instead, Day has picked up a set of Callaway’s new 2026 Apex MB irons and Opus SP wedges. But that’s not all he’s changing. He also added two Callaway Quantum fairway woods (a Quantum Ti 3-wood and TD 5-wood) along with a custom all black Odyssey White Hot OG No. 5.
Day made TaylorMade’s red Spider Tour famous by earning the world’s top ranking and winning the 2015 PGA Championship with it, but he told GolfWRX he used Odyssey’s No. 5 as a junior.
All the new clubs retain the KBS TG Black and TGI shafts he was playing previously. The only clubs he’s keeping in the bag are his Ping G430 LST driver and TaylorMade Stealth 2 7-wood.
That means he’s still playing the same 3w-5w-7w setup he’s used for most of the year before he drops to his next longest club, a new X Forged JDM 5-iron.
