Tommy Fleetwood, famously winless on the PGA Tour, joked early this week about making his first win the Tour Championship and the FedEx Cup title to boot. But after two rounds at East Lake, no one is joking anyomore.
Fleetwood came out firing in the second round, making eight birdies, including six on the back nine, to shoot a seven-under 63 on Friday. His sparkling finish moved him to 13 under, seeing him rocket all the way up the leaderboard into a tie for first place.
Elsewhere on the course, Rory McIlroy had another solid round to improve to seven under. World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler, who started the roud two shots of the lead, couldn’t summon the same magic he found in Round 1. Scheffler shot a one-under 69 to move into the weekend at eight under, five shots back.
