Membership has its privilege, and there may be no more desirable place to be in the club than to be among the green jackets at Augusta National Golf Club. How much would Masters participants be willing to pay to join? That’s the latest question of the 2024 Golfweek Masters Survey.
The responses ran the gamut from no interest to willing to fork over into the millions and everywhere in between. More pros than expected were non-plussed at the idea of joining captains of industry in the roll call of one of the most exclusive clubs in the world but there were several whose eyes widened and broke into a smile at the thought. Keegan Bradley said it would be “the coolest thing ever” to be a member while others such as Padraig Harrington and Matt Kuchar felt that if they had to pay to join it would diminish the honor. A couple pros noted that they would have to check with their wife, with 2008 Masters champ Zach Johnson declaring, “my number is a lot higher than hers.”
Perhaps Harris English said it best: “People who think about how much they will have to pay probably aren’t going to get invited.” On to the answers below…
I could care less to join there. I would have no desire to join there. If I can join one club for the rest of my life, Augusta National wouldn’t be it.
I wouldn’t. I’d be too afraid to break the rules.
I travel so much as it is that I just want to be home. Hopefully I’ll be able to play there every April when I win.
I wouldn’t pay too much but I’d pay more to be a member there than anywhere else, let’s put it that way.
I don’t know. People who think about how much they will have to pay probably aren’t going to get invited. It’s one of the most special places in golf. It would probably be a lot more money than I have.
I would be worried if I complained I’d be sent a bill for the replacement.
I’m fine with how it is. I’d love to be a member but it just makes it even more special for me to get to play there.
I would pay whatever they asked. Being a member at Augusta is probably the coolest thing you could ever do.
How much would my wife let me pay to join Augusta? That’s a pretty priceless opportunity. It would be in the seven figures.
The same as I pay for the clubs I’m already a member at.
I think it would take something away from joining. You could argue anything they asked but also that buying your way in shouldn’t be the way it’s done. I don’t really have an answer.
It’s a big thing to be a member there but I don’t want to.
If I had to pay, I wouldn’t want to join. It’s worth big money commercially to join but for me I could only join for the honor and I wouldn’t want to buy my way in.
It would be in the millions.
I don’t love golf that much.
I’d pay a couple million but I don’t know if I want to be a member there. I’m happy to play in the Masters there, I’m happy that through the members I know I get to play there once or twice a year. I don’t know if I’d want to be a member because my friends would expect me to take them and I don’t want to do that. (Smiles)
It’s cool to be there and play but I wouldn’t want to pay to join.
There’s not enough money in the world.
A lot. I don’t know the number. I have to confer with my wife on that but my number is a lot higher than hers.
