The week after a major championship might feel, to fans, like some sort of letdown. But these days, it doesn’t pay like one. This week’s Travelers Championship at TPC River Highlands in Cromwell, Conn., is one of the PGA Tour’s Designated Events, which means its $20 million purse directly matches the $20 million awarded by the USGA at last week’s U.S. Open.
The $20 million purse includes a payout of $3.6 million to the winner. That’s a massive upgrade from last year’s Travelers, which paid winner Xander Schauffele a paltry $1.494 million of the $8.3 million total purse. Fourth place this year will pay more ($980,000) than last year paid for second ($904,700). It’s another reminder of just how much the money has multiplied this season.
Keegan Bradley enters Sunday at 21 under, leading by one over Chez Reavie. Patrick Cantlay is 16 under, and three others (Rickie Fowler, Adam Scott and Denny McCarthy) are 15 under.
The final round begins at 1 p.m. ET on Golf Channel, and CBS takes over the coverage from 3-6 p.m.
