2023 Ryder Cup: Friday pairings and matchups, start times

The 2023 Ryder Cup finally gets started on Friday, September 29, with the first eight matches at Marco Simone in Italy. Complete Ryder Cup Friday pairings and matchups will be announced Thursday morning. Once they are released, they will be reproduced at the bottom of this post.

Ryder Cup Friday preview

For both the U.S. and European teams, getting off to a hot start on Friday is essential if they hope to hoist the Ryder Cup on Sunday evening.

Before the first matches start, they have big decisions to make about which players to sit on Friday and which players should be paired together.

The format of the matches plays a role in those decisions. For Friday, the teams will compete across four foursomes, or alternate shot, matches in the first session, before switching to the four-ball format for the second session of the day.

Only eight players per team will compete in each session, which means four pros per team will not participate in each session.

The first set of matches will get underway at 1:35 a.m. ET (7:35 a.m. local time), with the second sessions kicking off at 6:25 a.m. ET.

You can watch the first day of the Ryder Cup on USA, which will air exclusive TV coverage on Friday from 1:30 a.m. ET-12 p.m. ET. Viewers who prefer to stream the action online can watch featured match coverage via Peacock.
