2023 John Deere Classic odds, course history and picks to win

Before the best players in the world head over the pond for the Scottish Open and 151st Open Championship at Royal Liverpool, it’s time for the John Deere Classic at TPC Deere Run.

Thanks to its unfortunate spot on the PGA Tour schedule, the field in Silvis, Illinois, is lacking some star power.

Cameron Young, who’s still searching for his maiden victory, is the biggest name in the field and is 16/1 to win. After a few close calls at the Memorial Tournament and Travelers Championship, Denny McCarthy is the betting favorite at 14/1. Last season, he tied for sixth at TPC Deere Run.

Was hoping McCarthy was going to get a decent number this week, but the weak field has pushed him all the way to the top of the odds list.

In his last three starts, McCarthy lost in a playoff to Viktor Hovland at the Memorial, tied for 20th at the U.S. Open and for seventh at the Travelers.

After missing the cut at this event in 2019 and 2021, McCarthy tied for sixth last year.

At an event that usually has a winning score of 20-25 under, picking one of the best putters on Tour is never a bad idea.

Glover put a new putter in play this season and it paid dividends at the Rocket Mortgage Classic last week. He tied for fourth and ranked fifth in Strokes Gained: Putting (+5.419).

Before missing the cut at the Travelers, Glover tied for 20th at the RBC Canadian Open.

In 13 starts at the John Deere, Glover has five top-25 finishes, including a win back in 2021.

Since missing the cut at the Mexico Open, Ghim has played some good golf. He tied for 27th at the Wells Fargo, for 19th at the AT&T Byron Nelson, for 12th at the RBC Canadian Open, for 15th at the Travelers and for 33rd at the Rocket Mortgage.

Although he missed the weekend in Illinois last year, Ghim grabbed a top-20 finish in 2021.

Hadley has made the cut in three straight starts, including a top-25 finish at the Travelers.

He’s coming off a T-33 performance at the Rocket Mortgage and is arriving at a track he’s had success at in the past. After a 34th-place finish in 2021, Hadley grabbed a top 10 last season.
