The top-ranked golfer in this week’s tournament is World No. 9 Rory McIlroy. The four-time major champion was victorious at one of the first Tour event’s of the wraparound season, the CJ Cup in October, but he’s gone winless so far this calendar year, with a T10 at the Genesis Invitational representing his best finish of 2022.
McIlroy has only played the Texas Open once in his career, way back in 2013, but he did collect an impressive solo second finish as a young pro. Now he returns as one of he game’s best to try and capture his 21st PGA Tour title.
McIlroy will play his first round alongside fellow veterans Matt Kuchar and Jason Day. They’ll star their tournaments Thursday morning at 9:14 a.m. ET. You can stream the entire opening round via PGA Tour Live on ESPN+.
