Before we get to next week’s U.S. Open, there’s another national championship to contest: the 2022 RBC Canadian Open. According to the Canadian Open betting odds via BetMGM, this year’s two major winners lead the way as favorites. Here’s what you need to know.

2022 RBC Canadian Open odds: This week’s favorites

In less than a week, the best players in the world will gather in Brookline, Mass., for the third major of the year, and several of those stars are teeing it up at the Canadian Open to try and build some momentum. But one player who doesn’t need a momentum boost is Justin Thomas (+900), who captured his second PGA Championship title a few weeks ago at Southern Hills.

But Thomas doesn’t come into the Canadian Open as the official betting favorite. That honor goes to reigning Masters champion Scottie Scheffler, who edged Thomas out with +800 odds to win.

The fire power doesn’t end there. Four-time major champion Rory McIlroy, who has been contending every time he tees it up recently, comes in with +1000 odds to win, with Cameron Smith sitting in fourth at +1200. And don’t sleep on Sam Burns (+1600) who just bested Scheffler in a playoff to win the Charles Schwab Challenge two weeks ago.

2022 RBC Canadian Open odds: Long shot of the week

For this week’s longshot we’re going with 40-year-old Colombian pro Camilo Villegas. A decade ago, Villegas was one of the stars of the PGA Tour and seemed to have a bright future ahead of him. He captured four victories from 2008-2014, but then went through years of struggles on the course followed by personal tragedy.

But Villegas’ game is rounding into form. He’s made 19 total starts on Tour this season, making the cut 10 times. His best finish is a T33 at the American Express, but he’s mostly been haunted by poor play on the weekend after hot starts. At +50000 odds to win, If he can keep the momentum going in the third and final rounds and lean on his past winning experience, he could turn your modest $10 bet into $5,000.
