Previewing the Arnold Palmer Invitational

Despite regularly jostling for supremacy on leaderboards and in the Official World Golf Ranking, Jon Rahm and Rory McIlroy have found themselves on the same team frequently, from multiple European Ryder Cup squads to “Team PGA Tour” in the recent Saudi golf league debate.

But this week at Bay Hill, the star pair will be in pitched competition, each aiming for his first win of 2022.

Rahm, the World No. 2, and McIlroy, No. 5, are the star attractions at this year’s Arnold Palmer Invitational, but there’s plenty of other star power in the field, including World No. 4 Viktor Hovland, No. 6 Scottie Scheffler and reigning Masters champion Hideki Matsuyama.

Rahm will get his first round started at 12:57 p.m. Thursday afternoon, with McIlroy going off in the morning wave at 8:27 a.m. ET. You can stream the entire opening round via PGA Tour Live on ESPN+, or watch the telecast on Golf Channel.
