2022 American Express tee times: Round 1 pairings for Thursday

Jon Rahm and Patrick Cantlay, who had a memorable duel at the Tour Championship, face off again this week.

The 2022 American Express begins on Thursday, January 20, and plenty of PGA Tour stars are in the field. You can find full Round 1 tee times for the tournament at the bottom of this post.

Jon Rahm and Patrick Cantlay are the top-ranked players in the field at this week’s American Express, which is fitting because their fates have seemed to run together lately. At last year’s Memorial, Rahm held a big lead after 54 holes, only to withdraw due to a positive Covid-19 test. With Rahm forced out, Cantlay took advantage and captured the win.

Then, after a late season run, Cantlay held off Rahm to win the Tour Championship and the FedEx Cup title, even though Rahm actually shot a lower total score at East Lake. Then two weeks ago at the Tournament of Champions, both players ended up near the top of the leaderboard, Cantlay in 4th at 26 under, and Rahm in 2nd at 33 under. Now the two will face off once again for supremacy on the course.

For Thursday’s opening round of the American Express, both Cantlay and Rahm will play at La Quinta Country Club, one of three courses hosting the event. Rahm tees off bright and early at 11:50 a.m. ET (8:50 a.m. local time) with Tony Finau. Cantlay is paired with Scottie Scheffler for Round 1, and they’ll get their rounds started at 1:30 p.m. ET.
